May 2010

Come and enjoy just picked organically grown food.

Cottage Al Sole is ready for occupancy once again!

The property is starting to look quite lovely. This year we are paying a little more attention to the flower gardens and they definitely appreciate the attention.

More raised beds were added to the vegetable garden and so far – seedlings are doing well. Guests this year will be able to enjoy a wide variety of fresh, organic, just picked vegetables – we are adding potatoes this year to the already extensive selection which includes, Broccoli, Carrots, Parsnips, Sweet Peppers, Cucumbers, Tomatoes, Kale, Chard, Leeks, Zucchini, Salad Greens ….and more!  Don’t forget to look for me at the Fiddlehead Farmers market this season in Upper Gibsons. There will be new breads available as well as fresh vegetables.

Thanks to the guests who kept us full all January and February! It was a treat to have you over the winter.

Those who watched beautiful Vancouver on the television during the Winter Olympics this year – spring and summer is even better! So come and join us on the Sunshine Coast – experience the simple pleasures of country living.

Yours hosts, Renee and Renato

Summer 2009

This summer has been one of the warmest, with alot of sun and the least amount of rain in many years.  So hot and dry that we had to hang a special sun shade over the greenhouse to prevent the tomatoes from cooking on the vines! The full rain barrels helped to irrigate the gardens. Overall the harvest was successful! This being the third year of our journey here on the Sunshine Coast, we continue to learn from our new friends and neighbours.  Our bed and breakfast guests really enjoy sharing the garden’s bounty.  As I write this, we are bringing in the last of the harvest for drying, canning or storing over the winter and planning our spring planting season.  What we did not grow enough of ourselves, we are sourcing from local farmers.

I have become known as “the bread lady” at our local Fiddlehead Farmers Market, supplementing the weekly produce offerings with home made, all organic breads.  To maintain the customer base and satisfy those who enjoy my bread I will continue to bake over the winter months.  We will see you all again in June when the market resumes.

Wishing everyone a restful winter!
